Who are the Starlite Campbell Band?

The Starlite Campbell Band is the passion project of musicians Suzy Starlite and Simon Campbell. The duo had been recording, playing and touring in bands for many years until they met in 2012, when Starlite asked Campbell to join her band to play guitar. The love extended past each other’s playing and the duo were wed in 2014 after a whirlwind romance, forming their new joint band, Starlite Campbell, in January 2016.

In 2012, she formed the band Starlite and drafted in Simon on guitar. That year they played many gigs featuring all original material penned by Suzy, including Mannifest, a three day festival on the Isle of Man.

Blueberry Pie

'Blueberry Pie' is a fresh taste of British Blues inspired by the the mid-late 60’s electric blues with a contemporary fusion of rock and folk.

Released on February 1, 2017, it has received outstanding worldwide critical acclaim with over thirty 4 and 5 star reviews with thousands of plays on over 750 radio stations across the globe; from Memphis to New York, Sydney to Toronto, Amsterdam to London and Paris to Prague.

For their debut release, Blueberry Pie, husband and wife team of Suzy Starlite (bass and vocals) and Simon Campbell (guitar and vocals) set out to rediscover the sounds of the 60s British blues and r’n’b ‘invasion’ – no mean feat given that this was delivered by artists of the calibre of Clapton, Bruce and Mayall. Yet in attempting this, they not only succeeded, but also created a terrific disc that may well become a modern classic.

Fresh and modern, it’s witty and literate, it swings and it rocks, and it’s well-nigh perfectly executed. Hell, even the cover photograph is sparky

Unquestionably Blueberry Pie is a stunning debut.

To find out more about the musical ingredients of 'Blueberry Pie', Simon wrote an in-depth piece about the record on his blog.

The album cover was shot by Suzy in Ross-on-Wye in the late 70's and is of her late grandmother, Betty Higgs.

The Starlite Campbell Band will be releasing a new single from the ''Blueberry Pie' sessions to support their UK and European Tour later this year.

Walkin' Out The Door

Walkin' Out The Door

I’m gonna leave you babe, I’m gonna leave you this time I’m gonna leave you baby, for a thousand times I’m gonna you leave baby, I’m gonna leave you now I’m gonna leave you baby, doesn’t matter how There’s no mad dog that would stay: I’m walking out the door

I’m gonna see you baby, I’m gonna see you now I’m gonna see you baby, I’m gonna see you how I’m gonna see you baby, I’m going to see you - walkin out the door I’m gonna see you baby, like I’ve seen you so many times before

I’m gonna trust you baby, I’m gonna trust you to be true I’m gonna trust you baby, like the way I do I’m gonna trust you baby, I’m gonna trust you not to I’m gonna trust you baby, I’ve always wanted to There’s no mad dog that would stay: you're walking out the door

I Need A Light
04:22:00

I Need A Light

I’ve been loved, I’ve been abused I have suffered, Oh I’ve been used I need a light, to come through my window Not a fight, to walk through my door Oh, save my soul, somebody save my soul

Dangerous minds, dangerous hearts Too close to zero, but too far apart I need a knight to rescue me from the dawn Not a promise that has never been sworn Oh, save my soul, somebody save my soul

Lost in translation, that’s what you are Captured by beauty, a simple memoir I need a light to surf through my window Not a disguise, to carry me home
Oh, save my soul, somebody save my soul

You're So Good For Me

You're So Good For Me

I got in my pocket I got it up my sleeve
I feel it in my fingers
Makes it hard to breathe
No matter what they say You're so good for me

Have an ice cream baby Lick it nice and slow
Feel it running Down the back of your throat
No matter what they say you’re so good for me

Take the key from my pocket, push it in the lock
Twist it gently Baby please don't stop
No matter what they say You're so good for me

Cry Over You
05:14:00

Cry Over You

There’s a space behind your eyes that wasn’t there before Like me looking in an empty room without a floor I cry, cry, cry, cry over you

You’re a hazy consecration brighter than a light
Can’t believe that you would ever leave a human satellite I cry, cry, cry, cry over you

Time has lost a hold of you Now you’re somewhere, somewhere else in my mind

I remember not long ago The way you looked at me, you could do nothing wrong Anchor-light dynamite Take the moment - the wise man who knew

Jagged edge to open wounds of possibility With your deportation we are all a refugee Cut their paper words and hang them on the pity tree Perfect antidote for facile mediocrity And I cry, cry, cry, cry over you

Time has lost a hold of you Now you’re somewhere, somewhere else in my mind

Say What You Want
04:53:00

Say What You Want

Information is a bittersweet fix We used to wrap it in fish and chips Instead of kicking the liberty bell It hangs around like a bad old smell

You can say what you want Say what you want Say what you want
But don’t you mess around with me

A flapdoodle - rhetorical fear Pulling strings like a pro-puppeteer A misdemeanour - a blast from the past You’re fast becoming a pain in the ass

Communication - stop thief Adjudication - stop thief Discrimination - stop thief Incarceration - word police

You can say what you want Say what you want Say what you want
But don’t you mess around with me

Blueberry Pie

Blueberry Pie

Oh my life
Oh my life
The times have changed - one thing’s the same That’s the taste of Grandma’s blueberry pie

I don’t wanna kill my brother
I don’t wanna feel no pain
I don’t wanna fear retribution
To me it’s all the same
To me it’s all the same To me it’s all the same

I wanna help my sister
I wanna share the land
Where peace is not forgotten To be a caring man

I wanna build a future
Remember honesty
Remember good tradition
Where family means something
Where family means something
Where family means something

Guilty
05:12:00

Guilty

I am guilty of indecision Leaving it up to you Not having a point of view

I am guilty of silence Not using my playing card Political boulevard Not trying to prove anything it’s the right way for me...

I am guilty of television Living my life through you Vicarious deja-vu

I am guilty of defiance Depends on who made the rule
Prohibitive Sunday School
Not trying to prove anything it’s the right way for me...

I’d write it in a letter So you could know me better But you would twist my words to haunt me It’s not about persuasion A simple explanation… you’ll find
I am guilty of innervision Twisted anxiety A side that I cannot see I am guilty of compliance Placating the village mind Emotional step in line

I don’t have to prove it’s a matter of fact that I don’t have a book that will find a way back from rhetorical promises - this is the right way for me!

Empire

Let's build an Empire, a Superstate Where love is money and fear is hate Let’s build a system, be an engineer Huddle in lamplight, lifetime career Tear it apart and start over again

Let’s burn the budget, bleed the ground Stop public protests, that won't make a sound Let’s screw the farmers, license all of their grain Make us dependent upon your reign Tear it apart and start over again

Let’s bribe the umpire, to fix the match Tell the fishermen, throw back half your catch Siphon your water; sell it back again Sell propaganda; Bogeymen Tear it apart and start over again

Let's build an Empire, a Superstate Where love is money and fear is hate Let’s build a system, be an engineer Huddle in lamplight, lifetime career Tear it apart and start over again

Don't Get Me Wrong

I won't sit here biting my tongue I'm a miserable bastard don't get me wrong

I don't need hot sauce, I don't need jalapeño's I don’t need bad breath , I don’t need no machismo I don’t need no soaps or dead TV You just take what you want - that’s alright by me

I won’t sit here biting my tongue I’m a miserable bastard, don’t get me wrong

I hear these people and what they say It doesn’t matter anyway We’ll all end up - feeding the holy ground

I won't sit here biting my tongue I'm a miserable bastard don't get me wrong

Thrill You
05:46:00

Thrill You

Nobody told me. Nobody told me Old boxes of dusty sin Wrapped up with a piece of string I’m going to hold you, fulfill you, romance and thrill you On and on

Nobody told me - nobody told me Addicted to mystery
The scent of you close to me I’m going to hold you, fulfill you, romance and thrill you On and on...

There’s no denying that my heart is frying - stop -and feel the heat No disclaimer just complete surrender - you've knocked me off my feet

Nobody told me - nobody told me The postcard is on its way Says goodbye to yesterday Want to hold you, fulfill you, romance and thrill you On and on...

Nobody told me - nobody told me How wonderful life could be That feeling of meant to be Gonna hold you, fulfill you, romance and thrill you On and on…

Unpack that suitcase - ‘cos you're home

What the media say

“For their debut release, Blueberry Pie, husband and wife team of Suzy Starlite (bass and vocals) and Simon Campbell (guitar and vocals) set out to rediscover the sounds of the 60s British blues and r’n’b ‘invasion’ – no mean feat given that this was delivered by artists of the calibre of Clapton, Bruce and Mayall. Morgan Hogarth, R2 Rock 'n' Reel Magazine, UK
“Dare we say, their debut release on the Supertone label, Blueberry Pie, will be taking the Isles, nay, the world, by storm.” JD Nash - American Blues Scene, USA
“The catchy opener "Walking Out The Door" calls us directly memories of the amazing Cream of half a century back, and what a brilliant guitar solo home this song! - As frontwoman Suzy Starlite is a fantastic bassist who wrote along with, even excellent, guitarist Simon Campbell all songs.” Luc Meert - Rootstime Belgium (translated from Dutch)
“With all the music we receive, we don't normally get to play more than one track from any particular title we use - but we were happy to do it for your album.” David Fusco - Blues Deluxe (syndicated to 82 stations with a total of 1,369,020 listeners worldwide), USA
“Together they have recorded a truly superb album that accurately picks up the vibe of the mid-late 60s British Blues scene. Yet this is no copycat rehash – it is as fresh and exciting as any new Blues, but with a serious salute to that older, highly influential, period. One of the best Blues albums that I’ve heard in a long time.” Phil TheMusic Quill, UK
“This is one fine piece of British Blues from the opening ‘Walkin’ Out The Door’ to the last with ‘Thrill You’. It looks as though 2017 is already starting with a greater sense of musical joi de vivre than 2016 and this album definitely adds to that. A real slice of the right attitude and great playing.” Andy Snipper - Music News, UK
"Blueberry Pie is an album that carries within so many flavours. It's Campbell and Starlite's artistic token of love and respect towards not just Blues but also for music in its entirety. A truly inspired debut." Giovanni "Gio" Pilato, Bluebird Reviews, UK
"Blueberry Pie is an album that has been proving particularly popular with UK radio jocks while gaining significant airplay and acclaim throughout most of Europe" Iain Patience, Rhythms Magazine, Australia
"Out of nowhere, UK and Spain to be exact, we get this wonderful blues record that we always wanted to hear." Gecko, Metronome Magazine, USA
"Suzy demonstrates by her groovy bass rhythm extravagances what fiery soloist she is continuing the vein of icon Jack Bruce. Simon creates by his sensitive chant a special warm-hearted vibe. His suffrage sounds like a well matured Single Scotch Highland Malt Whisky. By his dreamlike six-string solos he reminds very much of a Peter Green whilst in his best days." Markus Hagner, Concert Monkey, Belgium
